"Yellowstone" TV series to move entire production to Montana beginning this month
MISSOULA -- The hit television series "Yellowstone" featuring Kevin Costner will be moving its entire production to the Missoula Valley and surrounding areas beginning this month, according to an announcement. Previously, the series had been shot mostly in Utah, but now the show will be shot entirely in Montana.
The production has signed a lease on a 40,000 square-foot space situated on a 100+ acre piece of land near Missoula, though the exact location has not been disclosed. The broker representing The Yellowstone Series was Katie Ward of Purewest Christie’s (406-596-4000). Sterling CRE Advisors represented the building owner in the transaction.
The project had many unique needs, including soundproofing for filming, additional restrooms, additional parking, air conditioning, and specific space and height requirements. There were very few options for buildings that could provide enough head space for cranes.
The agency reported that it was a challenging lease to broker and that the production should bring some much-needed economic activity to Missoula during Montana's fall shoulder season.
Although another company recently concluded operations at the Bonner Mill site in May, it could not be confirmed that this was the production's new location.
Inquiring minds likely won't take long to come up with a very short list of the new production facility's possible locations, but for now, it remains a mystery.
Yellowstone is an American drama television series created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson that premiered on June 20, 2018 on the Paramount Network. It stars Kevin Costner, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, and Gil Birmingham. The series follows the conflicts along the shared borders of a large cattle ranch, an Indian reservation, and land developers. In June 2019, Paramount Network renewed the series for a third season, which premiered on June 21, 2020. In February 2020, Paramount Network renewed the series for a fourth season, ahead of the premiere of its third season.
Yellowstone follows "the Dutton family, led by John Dutton, who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. The ranch is under constant attack by those it borders—land developers, an Indian reservation, and United States of America's first national park. It is an intense study of a violent world far from media scrutiny, where land grabs earn developers billions, and politicians are bought and sold by the world's largest oil, natural gas, and lumber corporations. Where unsolved murders are not news, they are a consequence of living in the new frontier. It is the best and worst of the United States as seen through the eyes of a family that represents both."
